Do you have a clever concept for a Windows® phone application? We�d like to help you turn it into a best-seller on Windows Marketplace for Mobile. Interested? Simply submit your brilliant concept by August 21, 2009 and you could win one of three prize packs worth $5,000 each! You can enter as many times as you like, as long as each entry is different.

The prize

The three winning applicants will each win:

  • A full pass to attend Microsoft Tech.Ed on the Gold Coast, from September 8�11, 2009 (which includes a complimentary HP Mini 2140 Notebook PC, worth $990 (recommended retail price))
  • A return adult economy airfare to the Gold Coast from your nearest capital city
  • 3 nights accommodation at The Crown Plaza Gold Towers on the Gold Coast in a standard room
  • Tickets to Smackdown on September 11, 2009, where the best Windows Mobile app will be awarded to the overall winner!

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  1. Information on how to enter and the Prize available forms part of these Terms and Conditions. Participation in this promotion is deemed acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
  2. The Promoter is Microsoft Pty Limited, ACN 002 589 460 of 1 Epping Road, North Ryde, New South Wales 2113.
  3. To be eligible to enter the Master Codemason competition, you must be an Australian resident aged over 18 years or over, who is a license owner of Visual Studio Professional. Employees (and their immediate families) of the Promoter and agencies associated with this promotion are ineligible to enter.
  4. The Promoter reserves the right, at any time, to verify the validity of entries and entrants (including an entrant's identity,age and place of residence) and to disqualify any entrant who submits an entry that is not in accordance with these Terms and Conditions or who tampers with the entry process. Failure by the Promoter to enforce any of its rights at any stage does not constitute a waiver of those rights.
  5. Incomplete or indecipherable entries will be deemed invalid.
  6. Multiple entries by a person are permitted, subject to the following: a) each entry must be unique; and b) each entry must be submitted in accordance with these terms and conditions.
  7. Promotion commences on 27/07/2009 and closes at 11:59pm AEDST on 21/08/2009. The judging will take place at Microsoft, 1 Epping Rd, North Ryde NSW 2113 on 24/08/09 and the 3 finalists will be notified by telephone. This is a game of skill. Chance plays part no part in the determining the winner. Each entry will be individually judged based on literary, feasibility and creative merit of the application idea submitted. The Promoter's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  8. All entries are deemed to be received at the time of receipt of the email and not at the time of transmission by the entrant. No responsibility is accepted for entries not received by the Promoter.

    • A 300 word or less description of the application being developed.
    Entries must include the following attachments:
    • Visual Studio Project file containing code for application prototype
    • Video or Slideshow of application prototype in Windows Mobile 6.5 emulator, or on a WM6.5 device.
  10. The best 3 entries, as determined by the Promoter in its absolute discretion, will each receive one return adult economy airfare to the Gold Coast from their nearest capital city, 3 nights accommodation in a standard room The Crown Plaza on the Gold Coast or a comparable 5 star hotel, including breakfast daily, a full pass to attend the Microsoft Tech.Ed event between September 8-11 2009, a HP Mini 2140 Notebook PC, and attendance to the smackdown event on the 11 of September where the overall winner will be announced. Additional spending money, meals, in-room charges, insurance, transport and/or transfers to and from the departure point and any other ancillary costs are not included.
  11. The prize will be booked by the Promoter and flights are to be taken by the finalist(s) on 8 September 2009 with return flights on 11 September 2009, subject to booking and flight availability.
  12. Frequent flyer points will not form part of the prize. The finalists may be required to present its credit card at the time of the accommodation check-in.
  13. The overall winner, as judged by the Promoter will be announced at the Smackdown session of Tech.Ed on the 11 September 2009 and will be reimbursed for their registration for Windows Marketplace for Mobile for one year, valued at $US99.00. Their application may also be used in above-the-line and below-the-line promotion activities for Windows® phone, as well as in Public Relations opportunities at Tech.Ed and the Windows Marketplace for Mobile Showcase event, at the Promoter�s full discretion.
  14. The Prize is subject to the standard terms and conditions of individual prize and service providers. The Promoter may require a waiver be signed before the entrant will be provided with any elements of the Prize, at the Promoter�s discretion.
  15. Subject to the terms and conditions of the participating prize provider(s), if for any reason a winner does not, once the Prize has been booked, take the Prize or an element of the Prize at the time stipulated, then the Prize or that element of the Prize will be forfeited and will not be redeemable for cash.
  16. In the event that a prize is not claimed the judges will select an alternate winner to receive the prize.
  17. If any prize is unavailable, the Promoter, in its discretion, reserves the right to substitute the prize with a prize to the equal value and/or specification, subject to any written directions from a regulatory authority.
  18. The total maximum prize pool value is $15,555 (RRP) . Prize is not transferable or exchangeable and cannot be taken as cash, unless otherwise specified. The stated prize value is the recommended retail price (including GST) in Australia and is correct at the time of printing. The Promoter accepts no responsibility for any variation in the value of the prize. The Promoter and its associated agencies and companies accept no responsibility for prizes damaged or lost in transit.
  19. If this promotion is interfered with in any way (including but not limited to promotional materials or products being stolen, forged, mutilated or tampered with) or is not capable of being conducted as anticipated due to any reason beyond the control of the Promoter, the Promoter reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to the fullest extent permitted by law (a) to disqualify any entrant; or (b) subject to any written directions from a regulatory authority, to modify, suspend, terminate or cancel the promotion, as appropriate.
  20. The Promoter, and any of their employees, contractors and agents or employees of their contractors and agents, accepts no responsibility for any tax implications that may arise from the prize winnings. Independent financial advice should be sought by winner. The Promoter and its related bodies corporate make no warranties and accept no liability in relation to any prize, its condition or fitness for any purpose. All warranty claims should be directed to the manufacturer of the prize.
  21. Except for liability that cannot be excluded by law, the Promoter (including its officers, employees and agents) excludes all liability (including negligence), for any personal injury; or any loss or damage (including loss of opportunity); whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, arising in any way out of the Promotion, including, but not limited to, where arising out of the following: (a) any technical difficulties or equipment malfunction (whether or not under the Promoter's control); (b) any theft, unauthorised access or third party interference; (c) any entry or prize claim that is late, lost, altered, damaged or misdirected (whether or not after their receipt by the Promoter) due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of the Promoter; (d) any variation in prize value to that stated in these Terms and Conditions; or (f) any prize.
  22. If for any reason the Promoter, and any of their employees, contractors and agents or employees of their contractors and agents, determines in good faith and its sole discretion that this promotion is not capable of running safely as planned, including but not limited to events such as infection by computer virus or bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes beyond the control of the Promoter, including but not limited to vandalism, power failures, tempests, natural disasters, acts of God, civil unrest and strikes, or acts of terrorism which might corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this promotion, the Promoter reserves the right and may in its absolute discretion cancel the promotion and recommence it on similar Terms and Conditions, subject to State and/or Territory regulations.
  23. Any cost associated with accessing the Website is the entrant�s responsibility and is dependant on the Internet service provider used. The use of any automated entry software or any other mechanical or electronic means that allows an entrant to automatically enter repeatedly is prohibited and will render all entries submitted by that entrant invalid.
  24. All intellectual property provided remains the property of the entrant. As a condition of entering into this promotion, each entrant understands and agrees that if their entry is the overall winner, they license the Promoter to use their winning entry in any media for an unlimited period for any reason including but not limited to future promotional, marketing or publicity purposes without any further reference, payment, or other compensation to the entrant. All entrants into the competition agree to the Promoter sending electronic messages to them. Each entrant warrants to the Promoter that each entry submitted is an original literary and development work of the entrant that does not infringe the rights of any third party. The entrant agrees to indemnify the Promoter against all costs and claims by third parties arising from a breach of this warranty. All entrants acknowledge that the Promoter, its associated business and bodies corporate, and third parties, will continue to create phone applications in the future, and any similarities with any entries to this competition are co-incidental.
  25. Upon entry into this competition, the Promoter will collect personal information about all entrants so that they can participate in the competition and the Promoter can administer the competition. To do this, the Promoter will disclose the entrant�s personal information to organisations to which the Promoter outsources functions, and organisations associated with this competition. If an entrant does not provide his or her personal information upon entry, the entrant cannot participate in the competition. Access to personal information may be requested by contacting the Promoter. Entrants should direct any request to access, update or correct information to the Promoter.
